Can the SUPALUX® Suspended Membrane Ceiling be fixed into a stud partition at the perimeter?
The tested construction, includes perimeter angles for the SUPALUX® Suspended Membrane Ceiling that are fixed into a solid, loadbearing element of the building construction that's of equal or greater fire performance to the ceiling system, on all four sides. This is typically a concrete/blockwork/brickwork/masonry wall, but can also be suitably fire protected structural steelwork. Where this is not possible and there are stud partitions at the perimeter, the following Promat recommendation could be applied:
The partition should always be fixed at full height, spanning from floor to soffit and be of equal or greater fire performance to the ceiling system being fixed to it. If the partition studs are at maximum 400mm centres, the perimeter angles can be fixed through to the studs, with M4 self-tapping screws. If the studs are at 600mm centres, then a cross nogging will need to be installed between the main studs to allow the perimeter angles of the ceiling to be fixed at 400mm centres. There should always be a ceiling grid hanger between 100-150mm from the plasterboard walls for the full length of the ceiling system.
Please be aware that this is a Promat recommendation only and is not covered by testing or assessment. Approval to proceed on the above basis will need to be obtained by a project fire engineer or building control officer.
