When specifying a Supalux® timber joist floors, if the joist depth does not meet the minimum depth required can you add additional timbers to the underside of existing timber joists to make up the remaining depth for the minimum required?
Unfortunately this is not achievable because the timber joist element is a load bearing part of the construction, we have no testing and certification to prove this will work in a fire situation as the timbers are prone to twisting. Timber chars at a rate of 0.6mm per minute, therefore the minimum depth and width are critical.
A possible solution would be to install new joists in between the existing joists which meet the minimum depth and width.
