Does Promat PROMATECT®-XW have a VOC test and an EPD?
The Promat group are working on a VOC testing programme but this is still in the early stages. By the time testing comes to fruition we are expecting the second generation of PROMATECT®-XW to be released to the market so unfortunately we only have the following holding statement whilst we develop our VOC testing. Historically, this was always accepted by the market, however we are aware that as a responsible manufacturer we are required to provide further evidence and this is currently being developed.
We do not hold VOC testing certificates for our Promat board products.
This is because they have a mineral composition, and in terminology of the BREEAM Technical Manual are 'Inherently non-VOC emitting'. Furthermore, we can confirm that no volatile organic chemicals are used as additives during their manufacture.
For these reasons, Promat board products are outside the scope of the VOC assessment required for BREEAM, section Hea02 (Indoor Air Quality) and are deemed compliant.
Extract from technical manual for information below:-
Inherently non VOC emitting products do not need to be assessed and can be deemed fully compliant with the criteria. examples of non-VOC emitting products include:-
• Brick
• Natural Stone
• Concrete
• Ceramic Tile
• Glass
• Metal Surfaces etc...
This is unless organic-based coatings, binders, or sealants are used in their productions or finishes.
In addition, there is currently no EPD for PROMATECT®-XW as it is a product for the UK market. The second generation board being developed will be a global product and an EPD will be produced. However, you need 12 months of continuous production in order to complete the assessment and therefore it will not have an EPD for at least 12 months post product launch. As this product is still in development, we do not have a confirmed launch date and therefore if the above is not satisfactory for your project, we suggest that you consider using PROMATECT®-250 or VERMICULUX®-S as an alternative.
