How do I repair Cafco MANDOLITE® CP2 which has been used to protect steel locally damaged?
Cafco MANDOLITE® CP2 Repair Procedures
Cafco MANDOLITE® CP2 was a spray applied, premix cementitious spray based on vermiculite and portland cement for internal use. It was typically used for Structural Steel protection and upgrade of reinforced concrete.
The product was discontinued in 2024 and is no longer available, even in small quantities, to carry out repairs.
ASFP Technical Guidance Document 10 considers it best practice to completely protect individual steel elements of construction with the same fire protection system. Mixing of fire protection systems should be avoided on single elements. Therefore patching of localised damaged areas of Promat Cafco MANDOLITE® CP2 using an alternative board such as VERMICULUX®-S, PROMATECT®-250 or PROMATECT®-XW for steelwork or is not recommended. We would advise that the beam or column where damage has occured, the steel, is completely protected using a Promat board system and not patched.
When overboarding steel beams that have been previously protected with Cafco MANDOLITE® CP2, it is important that all the damaged and loose spray material is removed first, this would also include the existing spray to the underside of the top flange where the top angle will need to either be shot-fired or screwed using Siniat Wafer Head Screws.
