Would VERMICULUX®-S be a good replacement for over-boarding existing beams where there is badly damaged Cafco MANDOLITE® CP2 which has been withdrawn from the Promat product range?
VERMICULUX®-S would be a good choice for 120 minutes protection to beams that have been previously protected with Cafco MANDOLITE® CP2 which has been withdrawn from the Promat product range. However, before you start the install it is important that all the damaged and loose material is removed, this would also include the existing spray to the underside of the top flange where the top angle will need to either be shot-fired or screwed using Siniat Wafer Head Screws into a flat level surface.
ASFP Technical Guidance Document 10 considers it best practice to completely protect individual steel of construction with the same fire protection system. Mixing of fire protection systems should be avoided on single elements. Therefore patching of localised damaged areas of Cafco MANDOLITE® CP2 using VERMICULUX®-S not recommended, and where there is damaged spray, the whole section of the steel element must be protected using the VERMICULUX®-S board.
To determine a board thickness required for 120 minutes protection, check the A/V value and limiting steel temperature of the steel as normal.
